I joined my family business early in my career and quickly learned the importance of superior workmanship and high-quality design when it came to residential and commercial spaces. I recognized that good design is not only about budget and form, but also must focus on how a space is used and by whom.
In 1988 my family acquired the historic landmark Castle Inn at Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook, Connecticut with plans to establish the property as a premier residential community. I was responsible for design, creative development and marketing and personally operated the Inn, on-site restaurant and renowned banquet facility with much success and acclaim. I was in my early 20s and knew little about the property's past and less about what was ahead for my own professional life.
A "learn as you go" experience for me, managing the Inn and shepherding its rich history was a life-changing turning point. While there, I developed talents that drew upon my childhood real-estate business experiences with my Dad and honed my appreciation for five-star hospitality, great style, and good living. However, hotel management was not the direction I planned for myself so it was time to move on.
A little "R and R" with friends in Mexico unexpectedly led me to my next creative venture. I was very impressed with the local craftsmanship and diversity of artistic products and ultimately began importing the work home. Before long I established a wholesale line of beautiful handmade pottery, garden statuary, wrought iron furniture and unique home accessories. Venetucci Imports Company was born and rapidly grew to a nationwide business with multiple showrooms and creative lines that drew upon the remarkable cultural experiences and observations I had while traveling. Demands for private label and custom designs from renowned retail clients including Neiman Marcus, The Horchow Collection, Bloomingdales, ABC Carpet & Home, Crate and Barrel and Robert Redford's Sundance catalog, inspired me to create my own spectacular and best-selling designs.
After a few years of accomplishments and growth in the wholesale home design and decorating industry, and as cliché as it may sound, I knew it was time to turn Venetucci Imports Company into a lifestyle brand for everyone interested in living tastefully with beautiful things. My travels to find new product lines taught me that cultures filled with rich and beautiful history create layered living spaces that evoke feelings of warmth and comfort. I knew this was exactly what Americans crave in their own homes and my instinct was to build an inspirational home design retail emporium that would showcase a little piece of what I fell in love with on my excursions.
Fast forward a few years and Venetucci Home has become the premier destination for living tastefully with a spectacular home design outpost in Newport, Rhode Island.
